BlephaSteam is an in-store treatment we offer in Boots Opticians Wimborne. It is a high quality electronic heating mask that uses steam to target blocked glands along the eyelids. BlephaSteam is more effective than a traditional heated, microwavable compress that people use at home. This is due to the duration & intensity of heating (15 minutes of prolonged heat), and the fact that we undertake gland expression following treatment, to ensure that the melted oil is ejected fully from the glands. This avoids any melted oils re-solidifying without leaving the glands, which can happen after traditional treatment.
Treatment with BlephaSteam takes 15 minutes and can be repeated often as required. We typically recommend a block of four sessions over the space of a month, followed by one session every 1-3 months thereafter.

Gland Expression
Unlike some of our competitiors, we include gland expression as standard as apart of our therapies. With our BlephaSteam treatment, we seek to improve gland function via reducing inflammation and melting any solid secretions that may be stuck in oil glands, but we also seek to help these secretions leave the gland itself via gentle prompting with a specialised, comfort-friendly tool, called a gland expressor. This is undertaken via gland expression after any light therapy we perform, in order to maximise the benefits of your treatment with us.
BlephaSteam is a safe, friendly treatment with minimal side effects. Most people benefit from 4 treatments over the span of a month, to get the glands to a good initial level. The price of four treatments with BlephaSteam is £100, with individual sessions priced at £30. As mentioned, every session includes gland expression to maximise effectiveness, which not all of our competitors will offer!
