What is Ortho-K?

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) is an fantastic option for the correction of low to moderate myopia in children and adults, fitted in our stores at Boots Opticians Lymington and Wimborne.

It is an affordable overnight lens worn during sleep, which allows for the gentle reshaping of the eyes' front surface (the cornea), as a way of correcting shortsightedness. This means no wear of glasses or other contact lenses during the day, allowing for total independence from spectacles.

The small changes to the eye that Ortho-K induces to correct your vision are entirely safe and reversible. It is also a great option for young children given its' natural ability to work as myopia management, meaning it is effective at reducing the rate at which childrens' prescriptions develop.

I looked at laser but with the cost it wasn’t an option. I saw this and thought it looked amazing. After the first night of wearing the lenses at night I went from -4.00 to -1.00D in the morning, and after a few nights I had perfect vision when I woke up. I can work all day and even if I am out until 3am on a Saturday night I can put my lenses in late and still see well the next day.

More information

Our lenses are suitable for prescriptions up to -5.50DS, including a limit of up to -2.50DC astigmatism. Our skilled optometrists can advise you as to whether Ortho-K is suitable for you - the vast majority of shortsighted people are eligible!

Ortho-K can work more gradually in those with higher prescriptions, given that more of the cornea needs to be reshaped to provide the best vision. Our optometrists can also advise you what to expect over the initial period as your eyes adjust to wearing Ortho-K.

Ortho-K lenses are cared for like traditional reusuable contact lenses, and are replaced every 6 months. Our direct debit allows for you to receive regular lenses hassle free, and covers your 6 monthly check ups with your local branch of Wessex Optical / Boots Opticians.

There is an initial, upfront fitting cost due to the amount of chair time taken to fit Ortho-K, compared to less complex lenses. You can expect it to require around four short appointments spread out across a month - our flat fee covers all appointments until a fit is finalised. 

Pricing

The cost of Ortho-K is a very competitive £54 per month, which covers all required aftercare appointments, contact lenses, and solutions. This makes it cheaper per month than some daily disposable contact lenses!
